As part of this support, a Capacity Building Seminar on Trade in Services was held on February 13, 2026, in Maputo City, bringing together representatives from the public and private sectors, academia, civil society, regulatory bodies, and cooperation partners. This initiative is part of the national consultations for defining a strategic instrument that will guide the country in regional and continental negotiations, particularly within the framework of the Southern African Development Community and the African Continental Free Trade Area. Trade in services is assuming an increasingly strategic role for Mozambique, representing a concrete opportunity for: economic diversification, increased competitiveness, job creation, and greater regional and continental integration. The seminar aimed to strengthen the technical capacities of sectoral ministries and other stakeholders, promoting informed participation in the preparation of liberalization requests and offers, as well as better coordination between international commitments and national development priorities. The process also benefited from the contribution of international consultants specializing in trade in services, Michaella Allen and Matthew Stern, whose technical expertise has been fundamental in ensuring alignment with international best practices and the Mozambican reality. This is another important step towards ensuring that the liberalization of trade in services effectively contributes to sustainable development, industrialization, and the improvement of living conditions in Mozambique.
