Mozambique Contributes to Angola’s Accession to the SADC Trade Protocol

Maputo, February 21, 2025 – The PROMOVE COMÉCIO project implemented by DAI and financed by the European Union, supports the participation of a delegation from the Ministry of Economy of Mozambique, National Directorate of Foreign Trade (DNCE), in the Dedicated Session of the SADC Trade Negotiations Forum, held from 17 to 21 February, in Luanda, Angola.

The meeting aimed to adopt Angola’s tariff offer for its adherence to the SADC Trade Exchange Protocol. The approved offer includes 5,422 tariff positions in Category A, subject to immediate liberalization (90.2%), and 585 positions in Category C (9.8%).

During the session, Mozambique shared its experience in preparing the tariff offer for the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA), work also developed within the scope of the PROMOVE COMÉRCIO project. This contribution was fundamental for defining the base year of 2025 as the beginning of Angola’s tariff dismantling.

The tariff offer now goes for consideration and adoption by the SADC Committee of Ministers, representing a significant advance in regional economic integration and trade facilitation in the bloc.
