Mozambique Accelerates Efforts to Implement the AfCFTA
Mozambique is stepping up its efforts to implement the agreements of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), aiming to boost economic development through regional integration. The country, which ratified the agreement in 2022, is challenged to work on the adoption of essential pillars, including the increase in Production Capacity; Opening up access to financing; Industrial Development; Resource Mobilization; Infrastructure Development; Economic Empowerment of Women and Youth; among others. These actions are coordinated by the members of the AfCFTA National Implementation Committee who are on retreat in Maputo Province to harmonize strategies and action plans, focusing on protocols, intersectoral engagement and capacity building.
The Deputy National Director of Foreign Trade, Ali Mussa, highlighted the importance of the event to accelerate the implementation of the agreement, especially in the services sector, taking advantage of Mozambique’s strategic location and its three main ports. The country has already approved its Tariff Offer and National Implementation Strategy, submitting them to the AfCFTA secretariat, and is now seeking to maximize the opportunities offered by the free trade zone.
