The 3rd Sectoral Dialogue on Economy, Trade and Investment took place in Nampula, in the Municipality of Ilha de Moçambique. It is an operational mechanism for monitoring strategic actions essential for boosting and increasing trade between Mozambique and the European Union.
The 3rd Mozambique – European Union Sector Dialogue addressed, in detail, the implementation of the current EU-SADC Economic Partnership Agreement, Trade and Investment Facilitation, improving the business environment and the competitiveness of micro, small and medium-sized companies for facilitate their inclusion in European investment chains, the follow-up of support opportunities and projects announced during the Mozambique – EU “Global Gateway” Investment Forum, which took place in November 2023.
On the sidelines of the event, a Mozambique – European Union Business and Investment Round Table was held, dedicated to the private sector of both parties.
For Silvino Moreno, Minister of Industry and Commerce, it is strategically important to continue in a consolidated manner with the Dialogue model in the provinces, always associated with the Business and Investment Round Table, as a mutual commitment to strengthening the commercial relationship, publicizing the potential of the local private sector and capitalization of existing opportunities under the Economic Partnership Agreement.
The event began with a field activity, with a visit to the Port of Nacala and some strategic enterprises established in the Special Economic Zone, in addition to projects, companies and institutions that are part of the ecosystem that also contributes to boosting economic cooperation between Mozambique and the European Union.
According to ANTONINO MAGGIORE, Ambassador of the European Union in Mozambique, the Dialogue served to review the state of joint trade, and the preferential agreement that offers many opportunities to deepen our trade relations, which is the SADC-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). . “We need to reflect on how we can make better use of the EPA, exploring its full potential, not only to increase trade between Mozambique and the EU, but also within the region and within the continent, this also in support of the Trade Agreement Free African Continental” Said!
The event, which took place under the motto “Promoting the Facilitation of Trade, Investment and Economic Partnership” was led by His Excellency SILVINO AUGUSTO JOSÉ MORENO, Minister of Industry and Commerce, representing the Government of Mozambique, accompanied by the respective delegation, and His Excellency ANTONINO MAGGIORE, Ambassador of the European Union in Mozambique, accompanied by Ambassadors, Chargé d’Affaires and Representatives of the Member States of the European Union present in Mozambique.
Also participating are His Excellency JAIME BESSA AUGUSTO NETO, Secretary of State, and His Excellency MANUEL RODRIGUES, Governor of the Province of Nampula.
